Dear Doctors,

For the first time in Azerbaijan, as part of the Azerbaijan Cardiology Festival – Kardiofest, which will be held from December 13 to 15, 2024, at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, the submission of theses and clinical case presentations for the clinical case competition dedicated to the memory of Dr. Ali Akbarov is now open.

Please note that 5 selected presentations will be published in the Azerbaijan Cardiology Journal. Additionally, the winner of the competition will be recommended by the Azerbaijan Society of Cardiology for the title of Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC 2026). The submission guidelines are as follows:

The clinical case presentation must be prepared according to the following rules:

  1. The clinical case presentation must be written in Azerbaijani and should not exceed 700 words. The recommended font specifications are: “Times New Roman”, 12, with single-line spacing.

  2. The title of the clinical case, the authors, and contact information must be provided at the beginning of the presentation.

    Institution name:
    Address:
    Contact: phone and email.

  3. The clinical case should be organized in the following structure: Introduction, Case Presentation, Discussion, Keywords (2-3), and Learning Points. 2-3 learning points should be provided, with each not exceeding 2 sentences.

  4. The presented clinical case should stand out due to its rarity in pathology or unique aspects encountered during examination or treatment.

  5. Special attention should be given to the quality of photo or video materials. These materials must be in JPEG, AVI, or DICOM formats. The quality of these materials is a key parameter in the assessment of clinical cases. Low-quality video materials obtained with mobile phones or similar devices will not be considered. Personal data of patients must not appear in photo and video materials, ensuring anonymity.

  6. The text should not include the patient’s name or surname, as well as the clinic's name.

  7. Abbreviations should not be used.

  8. Literature should be cited in the following format:
    Schroeder S, Baumbach A, Mahrholdt H. The impact of untreated coronary dissections on the acute and long-term outcome after intravascular ultrasound-guided PTCA. Eur Heart J 2000;21:137-145.

  9. Clinical cases that have previously been presented at AKC congresses or published in journals will not be accepted for the competition.

  10. Each doctor may submit a maximum of 3 clinical cases.

  11. Clinical cases must be submitted by November 30, 2024. Cases submitted after this date will not be considered.

  12. All clinical cases will be preliminarily evaluated by November 30, 2024. The top 5 clinical cases will be selected based on three parameters: the medical significance of the case, the quality of the presentation, and the quality of the photo-video material.

Clinical cases, along with related photo-video materials, should be sent to congress@akc.az. If a clinical case is sent via email, the subject line should include “Clinical Case”.

If your clinical case is selected, a slide presentation must be prepared.

Maximum of 9-10 slides:

  1. Title Slide: Clinical case title, presenter’s full name, institution name, presentation date, and location of the presentation.
  2. Introduction.
    3-5. Case Presentation.
    6-7. Discussion.
  3. Learning Points (Key Messages).
  4. References.
